It is a well-known fact that Shahid Kapoor has a step father Rajesh Khattar with whom he has spend all his growing years till the time he entered movies & awakened to his Kapoor pedigree & apparently got close to his biological father Pankaj Kapoor.

People in know vouch that Rajesh & Shahid were very close & Shahid did insist on changing his surname to Khattar ( which incidentally he still carries in his passport till date). But today things are different,as he hasn't ever acknowledged Rajesh in public,so when recently Shahid went for a music club opening , he was taken aback coming face to face with Rajesh

Both met effusively but were visibly uncomfortable with the presence of camera's & predictably Shahid left immediately after. It is said that they still share a very warm relationship but then why shy away from public eye. The Times of India sat down with Shahid and asked him the question girls all over have been wanting to know: Is he single?

"According to my last memory," the actor replied, "I am single."

Shahid has dated his fair share of Bollywood's most beautiful women. He was in a long-term relationship with Kareena Kapoor (the two split during filming of their hit film Jab We Met, though their chemistry was still palpable right through to the final scene) and then dated Priyanka Chopra (famously answering her door in his shorts when tax agents came after Priyanka last year). Speaking of Priyanka Chopra, Shahid had only the nicest things to say about her .

Just as the actor lands his first KJo project with Punit Malhotra, his Mausam co-star officially walks out of it. Bad weather forecast? Shahid Kapoor's single status seems to be working in his favour, especially for his professional life. The actor was slated to work on his first Dharma Production in 2005 in Karan Johar's Kaal. But due to the cold war between his then girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and KJo, Shahid reportedly opted out of the venture.

However, Mumbai Mirror has learnt that the actor has got himself a second chance at being a part of the KJo camp. A source from the production house revealed that Shahid has been roped in to replace Imran Khan in Punit Malhotra's next.

According to the source, Imran opted out of the film as he wanted to focus on Vishal Bhardwaj's Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola. And so, Karan Johar and Malhotra decided to cast Shahid in the film.

The source added, "Previously, Shahid was supposed to be a part of Soham Singh's directorial venture, Kaal. But at the last moment, he backed out of the film. Shahid was with Kareena back then and since she had a tiff with KJo about his decision to cast Preity Zinta in Kal Ho Na Ho instead of her, Shahid opted out for the sake of solidarity. And since then, he hadn't been offered a role in a Dharma Production."

Despite repeated attempts, Shahid Kapoor remained unavailable for comments.

Meanwhile...

Her debut film I Hate Luv Storys, directed by Punit Malhotra, has been the only hit of her career till date. And so, the news of Sonam Kapoor no longer being a part of the director's next has stirred up a whirlwind of rumours. A source close to the developments revealed to Mumbai Mirror that with Shahid being brought on-board the film, KJo was reluctant to pair them up again after the reception Mausam received.

The source explained, "Shahid recently confirmed that he would be a part of the film. Once that was decided, Karan and the unit felt that Sonam should not be a part of the film, especially since their last film Mausam did not do well at the box-office. It was evident that their on-screen pairing did not work for the film and so, the makers did not want to repeat the same mistake. As a result, the filmmakers are in search of a new leading lady."

Shahid Kapoor proved life saver for his ex-girlfriend Priyanka Chopra. Priyanka was mobbed while shooting at Daulatabad Fort while shooting for Kunal Kohli’s ‘Teri Meri Khaani’. Around 8,000 to 10,000 people were present on the set and it became a massacre.

“On the day we shot at Daulatabad Fort, over 30,000 people bought tickets to visit the place. On the last day we were shooting at the lake, which was surrounded by hills. Two of those were completely filled with people. It was madness. Some people tried to get too close to Priyanka and that's when Shahid came forward and took her aside,” the source said.

However Kunal denies that a near-stampede took place, "No, that's not true. There were no untoward incidents. Fortunately, we had the support of the local police and we had our own security. We definitely had to tighten the security to manage the crowds."

Punit Malhotra, who was chalking out plans for his next venture, was all geared up to repeat the formula which worked for his directorial debut, I Hate Luv Storys. However, we hear that his plans to cast Sonam Kapoor opposite Imran Khan for the Karan Johar production are not likely to materialise. A friend of the director's revealed to Mumbai Mirror that Malhotra is back to square one as far as casting is concerned, as Imran has opted out.

According to the director's friend, Imran wants to focus on his other films, as the dates for Malhotra's project would come into conflict with his other commitments. The director's friend explained, "After the success of I Hate Luv Storys, Punit was extremely keen to cast Imran and Sonam, as he is very close to them. Punit had spoken about the film to the media. In fact, Dharma Productions were about to announce the film. But then, Imran informed Punit and Karan that he would not be able to do the film, citing date issues. However, Punit was very understanding about Imran's decision."

Imran's decision to pull out, however, has come as a major surprise to many in the industry, since I Hate Luv Storys was Imran's first major hit after his debut film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. While the actor has opted out of this project, Imran's friend told Mumbai Mirror, "Despite these developments, Imran and Punit are scheduled to do a film together, but later. Imran is currently dedicating his time to Vishal Bharadwaj's film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, which goes on floors very soon."

Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor are being considered to star in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's next film called 'Chithiyaan'. However, only one of them will end it up grabbing the lead role in Vidhu's film.

The film is going to be a love triangle and Sharman Joshi has already been finalized as a second lead of the film.

If sources are to be believed then Chopra met Ranbir in Los Angeles for the narration of the script, but Shahid Kapoor has been seen at Vidhu's office often in the near past and he is in talks for the same role.

A source close to the filmmaker says, "The casting is still in process. It's a two-hero film. Sharman Joshi is definitely playing one of the two heroes. Chopra decided to sign him after watching the rushes of Ferrai Ki Sawaari. While he is very keen on casting Ranbir and has met him a few times, Shahid who is very eager to work with the producer of the Munnabhai series and 3 Idiots has been sending him feelers."

When contacted, the spokesperson of Chopra's production company confirmed the reports saying, "The talks are on with both the Kapoor lads. We will find out soon who bags the role."

Buzz is that Shahid Kapoor will play the second male lead in the sequel of 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai' while Kareena Kapoor is no more a part of the project.

The only casting certain about Ekta Kapoor's sequel to Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai is Akshay Kumar. While other members of the cast have to be finalized, there is a strong buzz that Kareena Kapoor who has earlier touted to be the female lead of the film will no longer be a part of the project. And Kareena Kapoor's ex-love Shahid Kapoor might just join the cast as the second male lead.

However Kareena's exit has got nothing to do with Shahid Kapoor being considered for the film. A source close to the film reveals, " Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2 is not a solo-hero project but has two male leads like the first part. While Akshay Kumar is confirmed to play the character loosely modeled on the lines of underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim, there is a second male lead who challenges Akshay in the film". Names like Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh were being considered for the part though there's more probability of the former signing the dotted lines.

For the female lead however, Kareena Kapoor's name never surfaced after the initial hoopla. "Also there are two female leads in the film", adds the source but Bebo's chance of being any one of them seems bleak. Director Milan Luthria has also put speculations to rest that he is casting his Dirty Picture heroine Vidya Balan as the second female lead citing the reason that the character doesn't suit her.

November 27, 2011, (Sawf News) - Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra started filming the third schedule of Kunal Kohli's yet to be titled romance drama in Mumbai on Sunday, November 27, 2011.

"Early morning shift starting my last leg for @kunalkohli the man loves these early shifts n how I hate em Morning all time to get me some Coffee n some progressive house to KICK myself out of slumber .... Oh I'm so not a morning person !!!!!!!! Till later .. Keep it real u all" Shahid wrote at 7am on Sunday, November 27.

The new schedule will stretch to the first week of January, says Kunal Kohli, who is also the producer of the film.

The film additionally stars Neha Sharma who has a significant role that has been kept under wraps by Kohli.

Penned by Kohli, the film is a love story set in three time periods - 1910, 1960 and 2012. Its a story about soulmates and how one always finds a soulmate.

Shahid and Priyanka will have makeover suitable to the different eras shown in the film's story. Even cities will be seen in the look appropriate to each era, says Kohli.

Shahid will be styled for the film by Kunal Rawal, and Priyanka by Manish Malhotra.
Filming began on May 25 in Mumbai. The second schedule was in London; it wrapped on August 12, completing 65% of the film.

Sajid and Wajid have scored the music for the film, teaming up with Prasoon Joshi for the first time.

"Music of our films is really going to be a chart buster," says Kohli.
The film will have 5 to 6 tracks and dance sequences, with Shahid doing dance moves he has never done before, Kohli adds.

Kohli refutes that his film is titled Teri Meri Kahani. He says this was a working title given to the film before getting filming permission in London.
The film will bow in theaters on June 22, 2012.

Buzz is, actor Hrithik Roshan has opted out of the birthday bash of industrialist KP Singh in Udaipur, where he was slated to perform with international pop diva Shakira. The reason apparently being the star’sslip disc problem which aggravated recently.

“Hrithik had agreed to dance alongside Shakira for the event, but his back is giving him too much trouble these days,” says a source close to him.

It was during the final stages that a reluctant Hrithik decided to opt out of the function because he felt that he wont be able to sustain himself on stage for long.

“The contract required him to dance. If it had required him to go onto the stage for a brief while or do a small skit, he would have done it. But they wanted a full fledged performance from him. He ultimately had to say no to them,”says the source.

The organisers are apparently planning to get actor Shahid Kapoor to step into Hrithik’s shoes the last moment,but it seems that Shahid too might not be able to make it.

“Shakira wanted to shake a leg with an Indian actor, and that is why this mad scramble to get somebody on board. But it seems it is not possible to get a male actor on the stage.. we will manage something for sure,”says a source in the organising committee.

According to gossipmongers, Prakash Jha, the man responsible for most of Bollywood’s issue-based films, is laying the groundwork for his next project. Most probably the project will be called Satyagraha and have Shahid Kapoor as the lead actor. Apparently, the filmmaker has sent out feelers to the Mausam actor about working together. That’s all we know for now, officially. But our speculative minds suggest that Jha is probably writing a script inspired from the recent corruption drama that occurred in the country. During the promotions of Aarakshan, Jha made a passing comment on corruption. When asked if there was any burning issue he would like to make a film on, the director replied, “The issue of corruption has taken people’s imagination. After the brief impersonation of Tom Cruise in Top Gunfor Mausam, Shahid is supposed to lead the official remake of the Hollywood superstar’s last film. We wonder if it’s really that big a deal!

A tabloid reported that Shahid Kapoor has grabbed the official remake of Tom Cruise’s last action drama Knight And Day. Siddharth Anand, the director of the box-office disaster Anjaana Anjaani, will be at the helm of the Hindi remake for the original producers Fox Studios. However, it won’t be an exact copy of the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz romance-action flick. It will be adapted to suit the sensibilities of the Indian audience. While our star actor and his campwallahs can jump with joy with the big news, we don’t really think it is great news. Actually, we don’t mind saying that it’s a tad too desperate for Sasha and the Hindi filmmakers to attempt a remake of the average film Knight And Day. And we have our reasons for it.

- While Hollywood star Tom and Shahid are on the same plane as far their height goes, our Bollywood hero is far from being an action man- an image associated with Tom Cruise.
- Knight And Day wasn’t really a blockbuster like Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible series and neither was it his finest work for us to jump on it

- And last, but the most important reason is this: why would the Indian audience want to watch a very recent release (2010) that was in any case dubbed in several local languages.
So do you get the point we are trying to make? Moreover, it seems Bollywood is running low on originality. After regional remakes and sequels we now have to deal with official remakes!

Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer Mausam, a hardcore romantic drama received mixed reviews, but it had a good start - the film has earned Rs 22 crore in the opening weekend.

Pankaj Kapoor's directorial debut, the film tracks the story of a couple forced to stay apart by socio-political situations.

Made at a budget of Rs 35 crore, Mausam was released across 1,900 screens and earned Rs 22 crore over three days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. People liked Shahid's performance and the story, but they found the film lengthy.

"The weekend has been good. We had 90 percent occupancy although it dropped on Monday. People are liking the content but the duration of the film is very long which acts as a deterrent," Puneet Sahay, senior manager for programming and operations at Spice Cinemas told IANS.

Some film critics have praised it, others have found the film an average one. Despite the average reviews, the film has got a decent response, says Munish Sharma of Satyam Cinemas.

"Although Mausam hasn't got a bumper start, the response to the film has been decent. The average reviews don't seem to have affected it as the response at the box-office has been good. Both Shahid and Sonam's acting is being appreciated," said Sharma.

Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (Cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, feels that the film lacks flow. "The film goes criss-cross. It lacks flow. Moreover its 2.45 hour duration makes it a tough watch although both Shahid and Sonam have played their parts nicely. The film has received a decent response in the NCR as both the actors have a good fan following, it failed to impress people in Uttar Pradesh," said Raizada.

The actor however, had decided to give Kareena Kapoor the royal snub. Looks like the actor got paid back in his own coins, albeit by the two ladies he had invited.

Despite the absence of his two ex-flames, Shahid's much-awaited movie of the year did manage to draw most tinsel townies out of their homes. Genelia D'Souza, Bipasha Basu, Sonakshi Sinha, Amisha Patel, Kangna Ranaut, Tabu, his Dil Bole Hadippa costar Rani Mukerji, Aayesha Takia and even Amrita Rao (who happens to be Shahid's ex-love as well) added some razzle dazzle to the show held at iMax Wadala.

She continued shooting for the film. On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra chose to perform with SRK at an awards function in Delhi and skip Shahid's movie premiere."

And it was not just his ex-flames who gave the premiere a miss. Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan, two actors Shahid has been bonding with really well of late, were conspicuous by their absence.

"It was shocking to see that neither Ranbir nor Imran turned up for the Mausam premiere. Everybody was talking about their absence in hushed whispers at the event," informed a source. Imran's wife Avantikaa however, did make an appearance with director Ayaan Mukerji.

Though some speculate that Ranbir might have given the premiere a miss because of Sonam Kapoor, the leading lady of the film, a friend of the actor defended him saying, "Shahid knew Ranbir wouldn't make it for the premiere. Ranbir was busy shooting in Chandivli."

A source revealed, "People at the event were speculating whether Imran missed the show because Mausam's first day collections are higher than Mere Brother Ki Dulhan." Distributor Aditya Choksi confirmed, "The collections of Mausam are 15 per cent higher than those registered by Mere Brother Ki Dulhan on day one."

Mausam, the directorial debut of India’s much feted actor Pankaj Kapur, has witnessed a good weekend at box office. The film, despite some scathing reviews by critics, managed to hold on and kept pulling in the crowds.

Though the response hasn’t been as good as it was expected, it is not bad either. The bums on seats haven’t been on the wane and that’s heartening news for the distributors. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles, Mausam rounded off its first weekend at theatres with a collection of approximately Rs. 21 crores nett. The movie reportedly raked in around 8 crore on its opening day; its collection dipped on Saturday, but picked up again on Sunday.

Shahid Kapoor can take heart from the fact that Mausam is his biggest opener at Box Office yet, even better than Kaminey or Badmaash Company.

Meanwhile, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has emerged as a hit at box office.

Mausam denied clearance by Air Force

Pankaj Kapoor's directorial debut Mausam seems to be facing more turbulent weather than anticipated. The film was supposed to go into censoring on Thursday. Instead it is now stuck in a state of frozen uncertainty.

Reason? The Air Force has objected to an aerial action sequence with Shahid Kapoor. For those who came in late, Shahid plays an Air Force pilot in Mausam. Special permission had been sought and granted to shoot in a real airbase.

So what is the Air Force objecting to? Apparently, it's a dramatic action fight sequence with Shahid on board a Mirage fighter plane.

The Mausam producer Sheetal Talwar is livid. "How can they do this? We had the script cleared by the Air Force on August 23, 2010. Now suddenly they're objecting to a sequence after it's been shot, edited and the film was ready for censoring?"

Needless to say, Mausam cannot be submitted for censorship until the Air Force gives an all-clear signal.

Talwar is all set for a meeting with officers of the Air Force on Friday. Otherwise he is ready to move court.

Me and Shahid are opposites and there’s always chemistry when there are opposites - Sonam Kapoor

Demure, Subdued, Quietened - as Ayaat, Mausam sees Sonam Kapoor anew. Contra to her spritely self the actress barely breaks into the slightest of smiles she lets silence and stillness speak volumes rather than peripheral trappings. Speaking exclusively to Filmicafe, Sonam shares with us why she loves Toronto, the biggest blessing of Mausam, matching steps with Shahid and fashion thoughts for her upcoming red carpet rendezvous.

You’ve played the quintessential romantic heroine before, be it in Saawariya or I Hate Luv Storys. How is donning the romantic avatar with Ayaat in Mausam, a Sonam of difference?
Sonam: Mausam’s Ayaat is extremely simple as compared to the other two characters I’ve played of Sakina in Saawariya and Simran in I Hate Luv Storys.

She’s gone through a lot because of the riots in Kashmir, so there’s an innate stillness in her which has developed because she’s seen so much while growing up. She has her nightmares, her prayers, her hopes and desires. Harry comes into her life filling her with love, hope and energy which she tries to cling onto for the ten years journey she goes through with him.

As Harry and Ayaat, you and Shahid are being warmly embraced and unanimously loved. What is it that makes your pairing spark and sparkle in Mausam’s decade long romance?
Sonam: It’s actually a 12 year progression for me in the film from 16 to 28 and for Shahid it’s from 18 to 30.

Me and Shahid are opposites and there’s always chemistry when there are opposites.

I honestly feel I’ve had chemistry with each and every hero of mine. Chemistry is all about acting and reacting to the person as well as what the director and writer write. If a scene is written which involves both the actors then chemistry is created - it’s all in the perception. I think Pankaj Sir has very smartly written scenes which create those moments and because Shahid and me get on quite well it translated nicely onscreen.

Mausam has raised the bar for your ideal man you said recently. What would be those admirable and endearing characteristics of Harry?
Sonam: I think Idealism, honesty and a purpose. People in the military, navy or air force all have an amazing sense of purpose - they know what their life’s mission is.

Purpose is the most important thing in any person’s life. A sense of purpose gives great confidence to a human being because they know what defines them - that in itself is important and makes a man attractive.

Shahid is one of the finest dancers in the industry and you’re waltzing with him in the film. How did you manage to keep up and match steps with him?
Sonam: In a waltz the man usually leads the woman, so Shahid had to do all the work (laughs) - jokes aside, the Viennese waltz we did is actually one of the toughest two people/partnered dance forms.

At first we thought it’d be easy because it seems really easy just looking at a bunch of people going round and round (laughs) but it turned out to be a lot tougher. After rehearsing a whole lot and we eventually started enjoying ourselves. The music for a waltz is quite slow so in between shots Shahid would put on his hip-hop and start grooving to it.

I like that kind of stuff - so waltzing was quite fun, romantic and beautiful.

You’ve invested and committed a lot of yourself to Mausam. How taxing or rewarding has the experience been for and What’s been the biggest gift of Mausam?
Sonam: This is actually one of my shorter films. Saawariya took two and half years to make and Delhi 6 took a year and nine months. Mausam has only taken a year and a half of my time so this is one of my less taxing films.

It’s been extremely rewarding working on Mausam because I got to learn so much. Especially because Pankaj Sir is such a brilliant actor so I learn a lot from him. I learned a lot from Shahid as well, he’s been in this industry for so long - he knows the ins and outs way more than I do.

On Mausam, I was working with the best in the industry whether it was the cinematographer, the art director, the makeup artist - they were all the best. It’s always great to be on a learning ground like that.

The film will have its world premiere right here in Toronto. How are you feeling about returning to the big city with a small town feel?
Sonam: You know how much I love Toronto - I really really love the city.

I couldn’t unfortunately come for IIFA because I was working but I’m so excited and am looking forward to coming back, I can’t wait. I’m just coming for three days but I’m like but I need to go here, I need to go there (laughs).

I’ve been in Toronto before for a month shooting Thank You so I’ve been everywhere - all the restaurants, the sea-facing eateries and all - the food is good, the shopping is good. I’m actually sort of upset that can’t visit properly and to do as much this time around.

You’ve quickly become a click n’ carpet favourite - Cannes earlier this as L’Oreal Brand Ambassador and now the Toronto Film Festival in a couple of weeks. What’s coming out of your fashionable closet for Toronto?
Sonam: I have no idea you know, I’m looking at something that’s really classic and really beautiful.

I think I’m going to go again for something archival - I wore an archival gown in Cannes as well. My sister Rhea is going to styling me again for it so let’s see - it’s going to be a surprise.

Give us a little bit more of a hint than that Sonam.
Sonam: In Cannes I did an Indian and a Western outfit, I’m thinking of doing the same thing in Toronto.

I believe there’s a press interaction and the red carpet so I’m going to choose either or for each one of them but I’m not going to do both western - I’m 100 percent going to do one Indian for it.

In a unique one of a kind and first of its kind promotional strategy, the lead actor and actress of a film have taken on the onus and personal responsibility of promoting the film on their own two or should we say four shoulders.

“Gonna post a video everyday till the release of Mausam, chronicling the publicity runs! Are you ready???” tweeted Sonam early yesterday, sending her loyal fan following into frenzy. To which an eager Shahid excitedly replied, “Am I allowed to feature in those vids too :)”

Later the same day, Sonam went onto post a video on Youtube of herself and Shahid on sets of the popular reality music show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs 2011.

The brainchild of film’s heroine Sonam Kapoor - the video diaries are certainly a creative way for viewers to have an aankhon dekha haal of all the Mausam promo-ing action.

Promotional runs are set to continue with a celebration for the success of Mausam’s music planned for today where singers from the film's soundtrack like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Tochi Raina, Hard Kaur and including Director Pankaj Kapoor will perform live.

Shahid Kapur, who comes from a broken home, found the shooting ofMausamvery unusual. It gave him the chance to spend some time with father Pankaj Kapur. Mausam was special because it gave him a chance to bond with his dad Pankaj Kapur. Shahid lived with his mother and maternal grandparents from the age of three after the divorce of his parents.

He found it difficult to spend time with his father who is a much respected actor in the film and theatre fraternity. So, while shooting for Pankaj's directorial debut,Mausam,he ensured that he spent maximum time with his dad. While the father-son duo enjoyed each other's company on the sets, both are struggling to come to terms with the harsh reality of having to separate after the shoot was over.

Reportedly, it was only during the filming ofMausamthat Shahid realised he didn't know his father's mother tongue-Punjabi. Apparently, Shahid was so upset about not having any attachment to his father's roots that he hired a tutor to teach him the language. "Shahid has the tutor travelling with him in London. He is really taking an interest to perfect the accent of the language", a source said.

Of late all of Shahid Kapoor's performances seem to be jinxed. He has been trying to promote his movieMausamin every possible way and has also confessed that the upcoming film Mausam will decide his fate. But his fate doesn't seem to be on his side.

The marketing team had big plans when they arranged its music launch in London with a live performance by Shahid. However, they had to cancel it due to the riots and there wasn't any formal music release.
Later, Shahid was to perform once again in New York to pay tribute to late pop star Michael Jackson and promote his movie but once again it could not happen because of hurricane Irene.

A new look into Mausam

Mausam is a love story beyond romance and is the journey of two over the seasons of life. In its first season we start with a mere adolescent attraction between a Punjabi boy Harry, and a Kashmiri girl Aayat, in a small village of Punjab. It develops into young love between them in season two. Their love realizes its own depth in the hours of separation throught season three. Although the mighty Khans - Salman and Shahrukh - are currently hogging limelight for their respective projects, B-town's young heartthrobs are simultaneously and gradually are making their presence felt.

Shahid Kapoor these days is quite busy promoting his father Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut 'Mausam' which is soon releasing on 16th September. On the other hand, one would have got a glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor's musical outbursts in Imtiaz Ali�s 'Rockstar', of which the first look and poster was unveiled last week whereas the movie hits the screens on 11th November.

What caught our interest are the similarities between the two movies... While both are bannered under Eros, 'Mausam' and 'Rockstar' seems to share creative ideas through their posters. Coming to 'Rockstar', international model-actress Nargis Fakhri makes her Bollywood debut in this one.

The Shoppiesta Finale at Meydan was packed with amazing star performances

Like most events with Bollywood stars, the Shoppiesta Finale featuring Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora Khan and Jacqueline Fernnadez began hours past the scheduled time on September 4. The audience at Meydan waited over two hours to see their fave stars but it was worth it in the end. When Jacqueline (the first of the T’town line-up) finally came on stage after performances by Kelly Rowland and T-Pain, it was almost 12am but the energy she and the other celebs brought, got the audience going.

Jackie grooved to her ‘Housefull’ hit Dhanno, ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, and a medley of ‘Murder 2’ songs (which was a bit odd considering they aren’t really dance number) followed by the always amazing Malaika who brought the house down with ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’, ‘Ibn Battuta’ and ‘Honth Raseeley’ from ‘Welcome’.

Then it was time for the big three. Priyanka Chopra, rockstar in the making, showed she’s really got what it takes to get a crowd on its feet as she danced to ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, her ‘Dostana’ hit ‘Desi Girl’, and did a cute segment with children to an Arabic song.

The gorgeous Deepika Padukone was just as good, moving to ‘Bachna Ae Haseenon’, ‘Chor Bazaari’, ‘Oh Girl You Are Mine’ and her very own item number ‘Dum Maaro Dum’.

And then there was the man of the ‘Mausam’ - Shahid Kapoor. Sasha made his entry with that super cool ‘Kaminey’ number ‘Dhan Te Nan’ and then showed off some funky moves to songs from his new movie that releases September 16.

The night was high on star power, but who was the true hot fave with the Dubai audience? Well, the loudest cheers were for Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. With their electrifying performances and amazing stage presence, the duo was dynamite. Despite their packed schedules and little time for rehearsals, they rocked in true superstar style.

And they enjoyed the night as much as Dubai did. Priyanka tweeted soon after her performance, “Thank you Dubai for being a wonderful audience. After a great show, a 4o clock morning flight, just landed and heading to shoot Agneepath. Overworked, underslept and an unwavering spirit. It is what it is!”

Shahid posted on his Twitter page, “Thank u Dubai for being such a wonderful audience ..... Napping for 2 hours before I head off to the airport back to Mumbai n back to ‘Mausam’."

Shahid Kapoor dropped by at DNATuesday afternoon.A sunny yellow Tee and an equally sunshiny grin to combat any wet weather blues that might be pervasive around the office. He is a celebrity known for his tight reserve, his control — preferring such a diplomatic stance most times that many movie scribes privately dub him ‘too politically correct’.

Tuesday though, contrary to his no-frills approach, he was in his element. He laughed, he quipped, he regaled the ladies in the room with flirtatious banter — and all through looked as though he was enjoying himself.

DNA: What do you think of men’s fashion?
Shahid: I hardly have any understanding of it.

DNA: You won the best dressed actor for the DNA After Hrs Style Awards last year.
Shahid: Of course I understand fashion! (laughing)

DNA: What’s with you and the hoods?
Shahid: Yaar, main baal ugaa raha hu. Toh, I just use the hood to put them back.

DNA: Torn jeans?
Shahid: Maine kam kar diya hain, dekh. A lot of people told me that they see me in the same pair of jeans everywhere. I’m working on it, man, I’m working on it — under Sonam’s (Kapoor) advice. That there is more to life than torn jeans and tee-shirts.

DNA: Is Sonam taller than you?
Shahid: No Sonam is not taller than me but I think when she wears these 3 inches heels she becomes taller. Bahut lambi hai yaar…!

In his casual banter, Shahid revealed some intimate facets — that he’s an insomniac, that he has a Golden Retriever called Kaiser who he adores, that co-piloting an F-16 made him lose inhibitions, it was that ‘extreme’.

He artfully dodged the one question we’re all wishing he would come clean on, though: What’s his relationship status? To that, Shahid’s rejoinder: Main khud nahin jaanta mera kya status hain. Even on Facebook my status is ‘Confused’… ‘It’s Complicated’!

That answer, though non-committal, charmed the room, as he knew it would. We don’t know if you let your guard down with us, or if it was a carefully studied performance, all the comic repartee and easy vibes — but act or fact, Shahid, it was a treat to laugh with you!

Actor Shahid Kapoor revealed some of his intimate secrets to DNA when he visited the office. Excerpts from the interview..

You like music?
I love house music. I obviously listen to a lot of Hindi music, usually not my own films because by the time it’s ready you’ve heard it so many times and you’re quite tired of it. Ummm, right now it’s Pitbull. I listen to energetic music in the mornings

What’s your fave pastime?
I enjoy chilling with my dog.I have a golden retrievercalled Kaiser — named after the German King. Nothing to do with that though (laughs). As a kid, I used to have this family friend who used to breed dogs. He had a black Doberman, he was huge and used to lick my face. And that’s the strongest memory I have of a dog. So I always wanted to have a dog named Kaiser.

You are young, talented, successful… Is there anything that you miss in life?I live alone. I don’t like that. So that’ll be the one thing I’d say I want to change.

You want to marry, y’mean?That’s a bit extreme. (laughs) Maybe I’d start up with finding someone who I like enough.

And what kind of girl would you like to marry?Anyone who is able to handle me yaar.

Are you tough to handle?I’m sure I’m tough to handle.

You’ve imbibed acting from your father (actor-director Pankaj Kapur) and dancing from your mother (Neelima Azim)… what is it that you are more comfortable with?I love both equally, very difficult for me choose. (pauses and thinks) well very difficult. Maybe there is a lot more to discover as an actor than as a dancer since I have trained professionally in dance, but as an actor I’ve had no professional training. Though I think even as a dancer I can learn a lot more but the desire to learn as an actor is probably much more.

How does your dad feel about your work?He’s very kind, ya. So he praises most of my performances, though I’m sure in his head he’s be thinking what the hell is he doing (laughs). And I think the biggest compliment is that he choose to cast me in the first film that he’s directing, Mausam. And my father is a thorough professional — he’d never cast me unless he feels I’m good enough to fit the role.

How much does the co-actor matter in picking a movie?In decision making not at all. But when you are performing with somebody the afct that they are good actors really help. Coz I don’t think that an actor is an island. I think any scene/performance of mine that people might have liked is as much…. what the co-actor has done or the rest of the team has done — is as much a part of that achievement as my work is.

So who is the one co-star you are most compatible with?
Right now Sonam.

You are one of the best dancers in the country but you’ve taken a form which is very different from your mom?
She’s always very insecure. Tu kathak mat seekhna. Learn a dance form which is more boyish. But I think whatever I am as a dancer is because of her. It’s running in my blood.

Does she like your work?
My mom is a bit biased towards me she likes everything about me. That’s a bit of a problem. I keep telling her to criticise me a little. But then dad covers up... he’spretty critical of me.

You were planning a flash mob?
Yeah, we were planning to do a flash mob in New York. But then this hurricane Irene had hit the place so there was flash floods and no flash mobs.

Don’t you want to do one here?
Mumbai mein toh kahi par bhi naachne lago flash mob ho jaayega.

Would you want to do a dance-based reality TV show?
I have been offered. I’d want to do something in TV that excites me, something new and different. Yes, I love dancing, so if it were something associated with dancing I’d love it. A lot of these reality shows however I think are totally crappy and are leading people into wrong directions.

You flew in a F16. Are you planning to take it further?
I want to. I’m really keen on the idea. And after the flight on F16, I have lost all inhibitions I had. It is just extreme. You can blank out and all that stuff can happen. There are G forces that act. At G9 you feel you feel nine times the weight of your body…

Is Sonam your 3am buddy?
See, I am an insomniac. So most people who know me are aware that I will be available to talk at 3 in the night.

Any particular role you’d really want to do?I’d love to play the Joker in Dark Knight. I don’t mind if I die after it.

You are one of the contenders for india’s most desirable man.
Laughs. Yeah, put them in a boxing ring man… what contendersand all.

Shahid dedicated one-fourth of his career to ‘Mausam’!

Mumbai: Actor Shahid Kapoor has been in the industry for eight years now and he has significantly devoted one-fourth of his career to one film, ‘Mausam.’

It is his father and acclaimed actor Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut. “This film is awesome. It was very challenging for me from a performance point of view,” he said to a daily.

Shahid had to turn down a few films since he was absolutely devoted to working full time on ‘Mausam’. He confessed, “Of which one or two were real good projects.”

He also added, “But I believe that once you commit yourself to something, you must fulfil it. Offers keep coming, and who knows what will work and what will not work in this unpredictable industry. So, no regrets.”

‘Mausam’ is produced by Sunil Lulla and Sheetal Vinod Talwar, it is a love story that has Sonam Kapoor in the female lead.

The film is based on the 10 years journey of the male protagonist so the project needed that kind of time said Shahid.

He plays the role of an air force officer in the film. “I have many different looks in the film. And it takes time to grow the moustache, beard... at times I would be required to look thin, at times muscular. And perhaps dad was bored seeing me in funky clothes. He wanted to see me like a man and hence wanted me to play an air force officer. Dad believes that on the big screen, if you play a man, it always looks very attractive,” laughs Shahid.

She wanted to know that in real life how similar is he to his character? "They were beautiful characters and I connected with them. I understood them and probably learnt a little from them. In the forthcoming film Mausam, their characters, Aayat and Harinder 'Harry' Singh, express their feelings through eloquent letters. Actors Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor admit that they have penned a few love letters of their own too and received quite a few as well but these will not go into. any brochure to promote the film as has been reported.

“I got my first love letter at the age of 14.
It was from a classmate and badly written. But what more can you expect from a schoolboy of that age?”

Sonam reminisces with a smile. Shahid has no memories of his first love letter but recalls that when he was in college, he got a lot of them. He says, “I don’t know if they were on scented paper but I do remember that they left me feeling nice. I myself went scouting for beautiful stationary and romantic poetry, it’s the thing to do when you’re in love. Some of these letters are much cherished, that’s understandable given that they came from someone I was drawn to, and have been treasured for my eyes only.”

With an embarrassed laugh, he admits that he wrote a few when the girl, who was always in his thoughts, was away from him. “But they were more like little notes, short and sweet SMSes and mails. There’s a great sense of self-satisfaction in bonding with someone you love. That makes you want to write or type,” he points out.

Sonam agrees and says that she penned her thoughts down on paper for the first time when she was around 19-20. “I write a lot,” she says. “I’m always mailing handwritten cards and thank you notes. They are far more personal than emails and SMSes. Even as a child I loved craft and books.”

However, unlike Aayat in the film, who finds it difficult to be with Harry and has to fall back on letters, Sonam believes that when she finds her soul mate, communication will be far easier given the facilities we have today, namely easy-to-carry laptops, Blackberry messengers and iPhones.

She says, “It’s hard to imagine life without cell phones even though they’ve been around for just a decade. Sometimes I look at my parents (Anil and Sunita Kapoor), who even after all these years, are still so much in love, and wonder how they’ve kept their love story so dewy fresh through the different seasons. The letters may have helped.”

When it comes to fashion, actress Sonam Kapoor may have her finger on the pulse of the latest trends and styles internationally, but when it comes to matters of the heart, the young star reveals that she is actually quite the opposite. “I am extremely old-fashioned when it comes to love,” reveals Sonam, adding,

“I relate to the old world charm of wooing your lady love with flowers, poetry and the works.” She also admits to being an absolute romantic at heart. “I completely believe in fairytale romances and in Prince Charming too,” she smiles. Incidentally, the actor’s forthcoming film with Shahid Kapoor too is an out and out romantic fare.

But while Sonam agrees that it’s a genre she’s a fan of, she says as an actor she would not want to limit herself to any one genre alone. “I think one of the worst things that could happen to an actor is get slotted in a certain image. I would never want to settle in a comfort zone, no matter how tempting it may be.

As an actor, I want to try as many genres as possible, be it action or comedy or drama,” she says. The films in her kitty are a reflection of this too.

From a romantic drama to the hardcore action film Players, Sonam says the only criteria for selecting a film is the story and also to a great extent the filmmakers helming the project.

“Even the best of stories can fall flat if not in safe hands,” she explains. But this was the least of her worries when she agreed to do Pankaj Kapur’s directorial debut.

“He’s such a powerhouse performer and there’s the same conviction and clarity of thought in him as a filmmaker too. There’s no way I would’ve ever refused him. I had full faith in him. When it comes to filmmakers, Pankaj ji will always be right on top of the list for me,” adds Sonam.

But wasn’t she worried about Shahid getting a preferential treatment on the sets considering it’s his dad’s film? “They are father and son, so there’s bound to be that connection on sets too, that’s but natural.

But they both are also thorough professionals and at no time did they let their personal life weigh over their relation as a director and an actor. Besides, they always treated me like family too,” smiles Sonam.

UK riots disrupt Mausam's music launch

Although Shahid Kapoor is safe in London, the riots have delayed the music launch of his next venture Mausam, also featuring Sonam Kapoor. The event was suppose to take place in Hyde Park in central London.

A source told Mid Day: "August 15 was decided as the date, since it's India's
Independence Day. The NRI population as well as Bollywood fans would have come to support the film. Shahid and Sonam were to perform live at the function."

It was Shahid's idea as he is already shooting in London with Priyanka Chopra. "Shahid is already in the UK shooting for Kunal Kohli's next film. So, it would have been easier for him to ensure that all the coordination for Mausam's music release was in place," added the source.

However, the riots played a spoilsport and delayed the launch. Now, the event will be held post Independence Day. "Shahid is returning to the country on August 16. So he'll meet the producers and figure out an alternate date and place to launch the soundtrack in India," the source told the tabloid.

The film is scheduled for a September 16 release.

Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut Mausam has been one of the most anticipated films of the year.

The film starring his son Shahid Kapoor along with Sonam Kapoor is the latest film to fall prey to legal hassles. Former colleague and a friend of Pankaj, Nawman Malik is claiming that the title Mausam is registered under his name and Nawman has also filed a complaint with the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers. Malik is also claiming that the story of Mausam is also his.

In his complaint, Malik has alleged that he had narrated his story to Pankaj Kapur a few years ago at the actor's Versova office. After listening to the story for four hours, Kapur expressed his interest in making the film. Malik further alleges that so impressed was Pankaj with the script that he wanted to cast his son Shahid in the film. But after some time when Malik inquired about the film, Pankaj said that Shahid was not in the country and they will resume talks when Shahid returns. However, the meeting with Shahid never materialized and they all forgot about it until the day Pankaj announced his project, which sounded awfully a lot like his own, claimed Malik.

Now Mallik has moved the Mumbai High Court and is asking for an injunction against producer Sheetal Talwar and director Pankaj Kapur for using the title 'Mausam'. He has demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the title and has even submitted a digital film called Mausam, which he claims he made.

Nawman Malik is a small time producer-actor. He is the producer of Mimoh Chakraborty's debut film Jimmy and has acted in films like Tridev and Vishkanya. Malik had served as an assistant to Pankaj Kapur when the latter directed the television serial Neem Ka Ped in the 1980s for Doordarshan; he had even acted alongside Pankaj Kapur in that show.

It’s almost a year since we saw Shahid Kapoor in a film. His fans are eagerly waiting for his film Mausam which is helmed by his dad Pankaj Kapur. The USP of the film is said to be its unusual love story which travels across times. Shahid is Harry and Sonam Kapoor is his ladylove Aayat, and after seeing a few trailers and stills from the film, we can feel the romance, the passion between the two lovers.

Recently the makers launched a poster of the film in keeping with its theme, love. In it, Shahid is seen holding Sonam’s hand and the two are lost in that moment as time stands still. The poster is magical, but it gave us a feeling of déjà vu. Where have we seen something like this? After some time, it was clear!

Mausam poster can easily remind any one of the Titanic poster. When Titanic released in India, people were not that hooked to the internet. The posters of the films which we used to see on the theatre billboards usually left an impression. Titanic poster also had that effect.

Just a few days ago, there was news about a Bollywood concert that was happening in Dubai to celebrate the festival of Eid. The concert was supposed to feature performances by the team of Ra.One, namely Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal along with Priyanka Chopra and American rapper 50 Cents.

However, now, it's learned that there is change of plans in the said concert. The issue now faced by the organisers is that the show was locked even before the celebrities could confirm their acts. Since Kareena will be promoting her film Bodyguard in the last two weeks of August, she won't be able to perform. Apparently, due to Kareena's cancellation, even Shah Rukh and Arjun opted out of the concert.

The organisers however, have now roped in Shahid Kapoor for the concert. So, it'll be Shahid, Priyanka and 50 Cents performing at the event.

Director Kunal Kohli, who is in Britain with Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor to shoot for his next, yet-to-be-titled film, says they are all fine and unaffected by the riots.

"Been busy filming out of London, didn't hear of the riots till I got frantic messages from people asking about our well being. All good where we are," Kunal posted on his Twitter page late on August 9.

The team is currently in Nottingham, and is expected to return in a day or two.

However, they are quite disturbed by the riots, which began in the British capital's northern district of Tottenham Saturday (August 6) over the fatal shooting of a cabbie by the police.

"Let's hope the riots in london settle down by tonight. People have lost their lives, livelyhood, homes. And all for what?," added Kunal.

Shahid posted: "Sad sad sad...To c this side of the human animal !!! Worst than animals in the wild ! Prayers for all effected ! Peace out man."

Busy in shooting, director Kunal Kohli was unaware of the situation, “Been busy filming out of London, didn’t hear of the riots till I got frantic messages from people asking our well being. All good where we are”. Kohli tweeted yesterday.

Currently, the entire team of Teri Meri Kahani is in Nottingham, and is planning to return to India in a day or two.

The London riots started on Saturday in the northern district of Tottenham over the fatal shooting of a cabbie by police. There has been serious disorder in a number of towns and cities across England.

Why is Shahid Kapoor insecure about Akshay Kumar?

Shahid Kapoor is all set to play Chhota Rajan in Milan Luthria's ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2’. But there’s something that is making Shahid very apprehensive nowadays. Guess, what it is?

There’s a buzz in B-town that Shahid is really very anxious about sharing screen space with none other than Akshay Kumar in ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2’. According to sources, in 2005, Akshay and Shahid did a movie titled, ‘Deewane Huye Paagal’. It turned out to be a terrible experience for Shahid as many of his scenes were removed from the movie. In spite of having two stars in the lead, the movie turned out to be a single star movie in the end.

That’s when Shahid decided that no matter what happens, he will only do single-hero movies. Till now, Shahid has stuck to his decision as all his movies be it, ‘Vivaah’, ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Kaminey’ or ‘Mausam’, all of them have been single star movies.

Now, that Shahid has been approached to do ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2’, Shahid has become really insecure about his role. Even though, he is quite sure that Milan Luthria will do justice to his presence in the movie, Shahid is unsure whether Akshay will again take the full credit away from him just like ‘Deewane Huye Paagal’.

Shahid is still thinking whether he should say yes for the role or not, keeping in mind, his solo stance. Let’s see what happens next…

These days, Bollywood directors make actors go through all kinds of training and workshops to get into the skin of their characters. Pankaj Kapur too joined this list recently by making son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor go out of their way and do something “really astounding.” Kapur,

who makes his directorial debut with Mausam, asked Shahid and Sonam to stop using mobile phones, SMSes or any short format for communication. Instead, he instructed them to write letters to communicate for two months prior to shooting with each other.

“I belong to a different school of acting. Everything my actors do has to be contextual,” says Kapur, about the film that’s partly period based. “I made Sonam and Shahid go though this extensive exercise so that they could start feeling like the characters. It took some time, as we needed to break inhibitions and develop new habits and then fall in love (on screen).”

Initially, Sonam and Shahid hated the idea of shunning their mobile phones. And since they were used to constantly messaging and emailing, felt it was a cumbersome job to write letters. But Kapur insisted that until and unless they go through the exercise, he wouldn’t start shooting the film.

Sources close to the film’s unit say that both Shahid and Sonam wrote really bad notes for two weeks, which left Pankaj Kapur fuming and baffled. But he persisted since he felt it was important for them to be able to write their thoughts down.

Interestingly, Sonam and Shahid have gotten used to writing letters that they continue to do so whenever they find an opportunity even today, two years after the incident.

Mumbai: Bollywood chocolate boy actor Shahid Kapoor is apprehensive about signing Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2,’ for the actor fears that doing a multi-starrer may jeopardize his role in the film.

Apparently, Shahid, who is toying with the idea of playing Chhota Rajan in ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2,’ had a harrowing experience while shooting films with ensemble cast in the past.

Talking to a daily, a source said, “‘Deewane Huye Paagal’ (2005) was a nightmare experience for Shahid. What started off as a two-hero Akshay Kumar-Shahid project, finally ended up being a one-hero film on the editing table. Large portions of Shahid`s role were removed. From then on, Shahid promised he`d do only solo-hero films, and right from ‘Vivaah’ to ‘Jab We Met,’ ‘Kaminey’ to ‘Mausam,’ he has stuck to his guns.”

This time around, when Shahid was offered the role of Chhota Rajan in ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2,’ the actor asked for some time to make up his mind.
It is believed that Shahid is mighty impressed by the work of Luthria, who had earlier dabbled in multi-starrer flicks like ‘Kachche Dhaage,’ ‘Taxi 9211’ and ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai.’
