The film marks a reversal of fortunes for Shahid who has featured in a string of box office failures with Dil Bole Hadippa!, Chance Pe Dance and Paathshala.
The film also marks a welcome respite for Yash Raj Films, the production company that seems to have lost its magic touch.
Badmaash Company will succeed at the Box Office not because it is a brilliant film, but because it was made with realistic expectations and a reasonable budget of Rs 26 crore.
The film grossed Rs 13.5 crore over its first weekend according to figures released by Box office India. Most multiplex theatres reported occupancy of 60-70%. It held ground on Monday with collections dropping by 55% over Sunday.
The film is expected to gross over 20 crore in its first week.
With the next big release, Kites, scheduled to hit theatres on May 21, Badmaash Company is expected to overtake the Rs 30 crore mark, thanks to Shahid Kapoor's draw and a youthful theme.
